Another day in Paradise

My personal blog about my life and especially my way back to compete in an Ironman Race

Where am I?

finally, back on Fuerteventura and moving! A very nice 5 weeks of holiday in Germany with my kids behind me, and the Ironman Lanzarote adventure in front: I have to get moving, finally! Back here thursday night, Friday then I started to train a little after the past about 3 weeks only having run a few times about 3.5km with my younter son, whom I presented running shoes back in Roth, he is sooooo motivated right now by watching the Challenge Race, that he wants to sign up for next year's Junior Challenge.. we also went for a couple of 20-50km rides at an easy pace, yet for a 10-year old it was not bad at all I must say.
My older one can keep up easily, but is much more into computers... his wish was to program a Monopoly - like game during the holidays, so we did that together : )
Anyway the past 3 days I rode 3x mountainbike, 1h, 1:40h and 2:20hrs respectively at easy pace to get rolling again and ran 8 and 10km sloooowly. And: I swam 2 1000m .. !!! Today it was dark already when I was back from the ride so I will do another swim tomorrow!
OK back to some computer work now!

holidays

....phew - holiday-time and I caught a bad cold recently. Anyway, enjoiying my time with my kids and got a number of nice workouts in, although not on a daily basis, which has to change after the holidays, for sure... ran 4x within the last 14 days, amongst those workouts an accdental 26km run, which worked out well, though and 3x11km at easy pace plus 3x easy 25km - 30km on the race bike. Visisted friends at Roth past weekend, thanks a lot to the Fehlners for another very nice time in Hilpoltstein!

long due

...long overdue: my next blogpost! the last 2 weeks where again pretty busy, but now I am on holidays for the next 5 weeks. Sports at the moment: Soccer, table tennis and cycling with my kids! The last 2 weeks I mainly got some running in (3xweekly 12km plus a 5 and a 7km run with hotel guests) and 4 cycling workouts, easy ones up to 70km. Will be visiting friends in Roth while the Challenge race is on, so see you there?

hot

..it has finally become quite hot on the island - the sun is up and intense and summer is approaching! The last days have been a pleasure working out, got in a very relaced mounty tour of 45km, two runs of 12km and today will try to run a little longer and ride about 2hrs with the race bike. From 25th this month I will be on holidays with the family... Cool. Before that I will greet some swim groups at the Oasis Papagayo and try to get in a lot of prep work to be done for our upcoming Fuertebike Mountainbike race.

and the next steps

... the past 4 days I've got in a 12km, a 10km and a 7km run, all easy as well as a 34km bike ride at a medium pace. What a view coming back down to Corraljeo's coast from the somewhat higher La Oliva - the air has been very clear today and so the sight was simply incredible!

guilty

...feeling a bit guilty, a new blog post is quite overdue!!! Well as you can imagine didn't get that in since my last one being simply really busy: The Oasis Papagayo's first tennis tournament is currently up and running, and a quite a number of things apart from the hotel work are keeping me busy, in a positive way though! Training... got in 6 runs in the past 10days, over 4,5,7.5, 2x10 and 1x12km all at base pace and rode 45,4x30,1x86 and 2x65km of which the short routes where very slow, on the others I managed to at least do some over-gearing on Fuerteventura's climbs.

goooood

Windy

....have "landed" on Lanzarote to cheer friends participating in the Iroman Race tomorrow. It's windy.... even for someone living on the Canaries, a bit unusual. Let's see what the race will bring, same conditions for everyone! Yesterday I got a quick 40min run in at some 4:25min/km taking the nice route through the Dunes in Corralejo. Today and tomorrow will skip workouts for the Ironman experience, but Sunday will be another day to prepare a next little step for next year's race.

Ah - yesterday 1:05hrs on the Mountainbike really easy, today 30km race bike, really easy and 11km base pace run. We're having kitesurf weather, definitely - the wind is telling us, summer is knocking on Fuerteventura's doors!

...wow - today ran again to support our sales manager preparing a marathon, 21km at easy pace with 6x1000m at 4min - 3:45min/km squeezed in. Knee and legs hold !!! That's definitely my record in the 6 years after my knee injury occured in mileage within 2 days! During the morning also got an easy 20km Mountainbike ride in!

never boring

..got a 2:20hrs Mountainbike ride in yesterday at base pace plus some over-gearinkg uphill and today a 20km run a 20km run around my beloved Volcano. Actually it's not only one, but it feels like one big instead of 3 or 5 small ones. It never gets boring on this route as it has climbs, single trails, wide and narrow paths and wide views - feels more like 40min than the 1:30hrs that I need Laughing for the loop !

some less hot

...it is still "calimatic" - the desert winds are coming over, but the wind has picked up so it does not feel that hot anymore. Got a 14km run with 10x1km a little faster (9x 3:40min/km, 1x 3:17min/km) yesterday evening and just come back from a 20km mountain bike ride around thie volcano, some over-gearing - my usual thingy - uphill, but else nothing major in terms of quality. Will see if I can get a longer ride in tomorrow if time allows for it and a longer run on Sunday Laughing

calima

Today we're really seeing some Calima over here - the sandy, hot air coming over from Africa. It's been well over 30C, without too much wind, what a preview on hot summer days! I've been able to get in 1:30hrs of Mountainbiking yesterday combining a bit of the flat coast and climbs around the Volcano at base pace and today an 11km run at 4:35min/km-ish pace feeling much more light-footed again after this "series" of workouts after getting rid of the bad cold.

Feeling.. much better than after a long day in the office chair Laughing

Today hope to be able to get out soon either on the bike or later after a trip to the airport for another run workout Laughing

beautiful

...a beatiful day, really today! And finally, though with some last remnants of the bad cold I managed to get rolling again, 30km easy on the racebike and 6.5km of almost "normal" running. Normally May and early June are low-season phases, but we're at close to 100% booked at the Oasis Papagayo, and the prpvisions are looking the same for the remainder of the year! We're planning on reloading the Fuertebike on 12th September this year and I'm busy preparing things for this very much at this time. So, summer doesn't look like it's going to be boring!

just do it

...still some remnants of the bad cold Frown - but yesterday I just had to do it - went for 40min easy cycling with my mountain bike. I will today dare to run 30-40min easy, soon to come Smile - feel like it's in the make-range without risking a comeback of the bad cold!
